Tippy the turtle, Vol. 1

The adventures of Tippy the Turtle, Vol. 1.

Tippy the turtle lived on a farm, nestled away among woods and streams, where it would not be unusual to find a variety of animal friends going about their lives each day. On this particular Fall day Tippy woke to the morning sun, still warm on his shell but even Tippy could tell that the days we're getting colder.

Looking around as Tippy started his morning walk he noticed that all of the trees had changed their colors, almost over night. This wasn't unusual for Tippy, since he took every day slowly and only focused on the moment, so seeing things change out of nowhere did not surprise him. What did surprise Tippy wasn't the range of Fall colors, or the sudden breeze that brought with it the hint of Winter, but rather he was taken aback by the bounding figure ahead of him.

There among some piles of leaves that the Farmer had swept up, jumping to and fro, rolling around, was Tippy's old friend Clover the Dog. Clover was too busy having fun to notice Tippy at first, but after one large bound into the leaf pile he suddenly perked his ears up as he spied Tippy. Bounding over Clover greeted his old turtle friend, running circles around him. Tippy had not seen Clover for many months, and as it turns out Clover explained that they had been helping to take care of their owners who had gotten sick. Now that they were better though it was time for Clover to have fun.

Tippy played with Clover for awhile, and the two had such fun in the leaf piles with Clover's boundless energy and Tippy's happy disposition. They spoke about Christmas coming, and Clover suggested they all have a Christmas feast together. Tippy was overjoyed, and promised that he would make a wonderful pumpkin pie. Soon though the morning grew to mid-day and Tippy had to bid Clover goodbye. Afterall, Tippy never stayed in one place too long since there was so much to see in the Farmer's woods.

After a time of roaming Tippy began to hear the cawing of another friend, Howie the Crow. Howie sat upon his fence post, as he always did, looked about the Farmer's field. Tippy strolled up and asked Howie what he had been doing today, if he had been taking in the beautiful leaves as he and Clover just did. No, responded Howie, he had been watching over the field. Other crows had come and tried to eat the Farmer's pumpkins he said, not even wanting to share! Tippy was shocked, did they not know that the pumpkins were for everyone to enjoy? He thanked Howie for keeping a watchful eye on the field, and in return Howie showed Tippy one of the smaller ripe pumpkins. This would make a perfect pie, Tippy thought. With Howie's help they balanced the pumpkin on Tippy's shell, and like that he was off back towards his home near the brook, just inside a comfortable and warm fallen log.

As tippy strolled back to his log he saw and waved to many of his other friends, always making him smile. He saw his friend the Toad, sitting on a rock taking in the Fall sun like Tippy had just this morning. On a tree was the Redbird, who would often come by during the Spring to wake Tippy up with her song, although she didn't notice Tippy since she was busy making her next warmer for her babies. Tippy figured she knew it would be getting colder before anyone else, it seemed to Tippy birds always did.

When Tippy got back to his log-home it was already getting late. Turtle are slow after all, and it didn't help that Tippy loved to take his time besides. He rolled the small pumpkin off his shell and nudged it inside the log. This would surely make Clover happy when he tasted the pie that would come from it. Tippy settled down into his bed of twigs and feathers, which had been donated by the Farmer's duck for Tippy to stay warm. He was happy that today had been so fun, and looked forward to what tomorrow would bring him.
